Accident prevention
Natural gas, butane, and propane are explosive at certain concentrations and therefore pose a danger to your life. If a gas leak occurs, you want to be warned and act quickly. At home, for example, natural gas can leak from a boiler or gas stove. You can prevent fatal accidents by using a gas detector.

24-hour protection
The Smartwares RM400 gas detector has a loud and clear 85 dB alarm that goes off when natural gas, propane, or butane is detected. The gas alarm is powered by mains electricity and comes with a 9 V backup battery that lasts for 1 year. In case of a power outage, the gas detector uses this backup battery and can operate on it for 1–2 hours. The sensor lifetime is 5 years, providing you with 24-hour protection. You will hear a short beep when the battery is low, so you will be warned when it needs to be replaced. It is recommended to test the alarm monthly by pressing the test button on the device.

Installation
It is important to place the gas detector in the right location, as some gases rise while others stay close to the ground. You should place the alarm near the gas source, such as a boiler, stove, or gas tanks. If you want to detect natural gas, the detector should be installed within 30 cm of the ceiling and no more than 8 m from the gas source. The green LED light will indicate that the gas detector is working properly. It is recommended to connect the adapter directly to the main socket so it cannot be accidentally switched off.

Maintenance
The functionality of the gas detector can be affected by dust and dirt, so it is important to clean the alarm monthly with a slightly damp cloth and twice a year with a vacuum cleaner. You should never use cleaning products or paint the alarm. You can test the alarm simply by pressing the test button.
